Mailbox Monday is a carnival that was started by Marcia at the Printed Page, where we are invited to share about books that we ordered or bought or received for review. It’s such a fun way to connect with other booklovers!
Chick Loves Lit, is guest-hosting Mailbox Monday all month, so be sure to check in over there.

All copies for review (I’ve been on a reading roll, so I need to keep it up, so that I can stay on top of Mount TBR):
The Kneebone Boy by Ellen Potter — I’ve heard good things about Potter, but never read her. This middle-grade novel has a quirky feel, and quirky either makes me smile the whole time I’m reading or flops. We’ll see which way this goes.- The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa, second in a series (I reviewed The Iron King here).
- Scholastic Children’s Dictionary (2010 Edition) (Check out our awesome back-to-school giveaway of the dictionary and a $50 gift card.).
- Don’t Stalk the Admissions Officer: How to Survive the College Admissions Process without Losing Your Mind — I’m a few years off from this, but only a few, and the author Risa Lewak promised a funny read, so I’d like to set my frame of mind correctly now. And funny is always good, no matter the topic.
- Everything Is Going to Be Great: An Underfunded and Overexposed European Grand Tour — I love a great travel memoir, and again this one by Rachel Shukert seems funny. Funny is good.
Nanny McPhee Returns — This is so much more than just a movie tie-in edition. I’ve gotten started, and I’m delighted by Emma Thompson’s ongoing film diary excerpts in between the story. She wrote the story and stars in the movie.- Parents’ Guide to the Middle School Years — This was unsolicited, but since my daughter starts middle school in two weeks, it’s quite timely.
Please leave a comment letting me know which of these titles interest you. We also invite you to join in our carnivals each Tuesday: from Kids’ Picks to What’s on Your Nightstand, to a Children’s Classics challenge. Join Us!

I only got one book this week. Here is mine
You got a good lot!
Have another great reading week ahead! Here is my Mondays: Mailbox/Where Am I/Musings post.
Enjoy your new books. I’m currently reading The Iron King and I’ve already bought The Iron Daughter.
I just finished the Iron Daughter. I had put it aside (the Galley on my Kindle), but then picked it up. My daughter can’t wait to read it.
There’s an e-book available that’s about 70 pages long called a Winter’s Passage that bridges the two stories. It’s not necessary to read it, but there are some different facts in there.
You are absolutely right about quirky. Here’s hoping The Kneebone Boy is the good kind of quirky! I also received Everything is Going to be Great, and I’m hoping it’s as funny as it sounds.
Here’s my mailbox.
Jen, You got a lot of great books; enjoy
You got a great variety of books! Good luck with the middle school years.
Yes, good luck will be helpful in raising a teenager 🙂 She saw the book and decided that she should read it.
Nice haul. I’ll have to look into the European vacation.
Looks like a nice assortment of books — enjoy!
You had nice haul! I’d love to read Julie Kagawa’s books. Enjoy!
Ack- middle school AND college admissions books?? BOTH of these terrify me!! 🙂
Yeah, definitely some big stuff!
Having just gone through the college admissions circus, anything that can paint the experience in a humorous light is worth its weight in gold 🙂
I also received Everything is going to be great…looks like a hoot!
Yes, I have heard a lot of buzz about Everything is Going to Be Great.
And yes, getting into a good frame of mind in regards to college will be a good thing.
Everything Is Going To Be Great is at the top of my wish list – enjoy it!
I needed Don’t Stalk the Admissions Officer when my daughter was applying last year. I’m an old hand now! LOL… no, it’s a learning process every year. The other books I would love to read. I didn’t know there was a Nanny McPhee Returns book. I would love to read that to my children and see the movie with my children. I finally saw the first one when it was on television and I was entranced. 🙂
Stay tuned Petula. I have an extra copy of the book and might give it away, and will also be posting a movie review and an interview with Emma Thompson!!
Cool! I’ll definitely keep my eyes open. 🙂
I like the title, don’t stalk the admissions officer…lol
happy reading
