I may be stepping on some toes with this review. The iConnected Parent by Barbara K. Hofer and Abigal Sullivan Moore asks about our contact with our college-aged kids “How much is too much?”
I have always been much a more hands-off/Free Range parent than a helicopter parent, but this book opened my eyes to some danger zones in my own parenting choices.
Click over to the Kirkus Reviews blog to read my review of The iConnected Parent. Check out the specifics over there, but I think it will interest anyone concerned about parenting or communication trends and changes in culture in addition to those who have teen and young adult children directly affected by the issues raised in this book.

I’m mentally adding up how much electronic communication I typically have with my daughter at college in the course of a week. Higher or lower than 13? And with another daughter heading to college next year, how will I do with her?
This sounds like a beneficial book that I should read. Great review, Jennifer.

It really is quite interesting. The new practice isn’t criticized in itself, but she does point out the dangers (easier to call home than work to connect with new peers, etc etc). VERY interesting! Things have certainly changed from my “generation’s” weekly (if the parents are lucky) call home.

My daughter is a senior this year, and I’ve been thinking about this very topic. My parents called me every Saturday morning at 8:00; will I call my daughter, or just text her? I loved living in Greece for a year because the only way my parents could contact me was by letter. I have this book on reserve at the library right now! Thanks.
