All about 5 Minutes for Books

April 9, 2010 by Jennifer

Ultimate Blog Party 2010

Welcome — Ultimate Blog Party-hoppers — to 5 Minutes for Books! Regular readers — you might find out something new too, so I hope you read and comment.

We are a sister site to 5 Minutes for Mom, and we have a wonderful team of reviewers who each have a different favorite type of book. That means we can offer all sorts of reviews, hopefully providing you with recommendations on the type of book YOU are looking for:

Fiction
Non-fiction
Memoir
Books for Babies
Books for Preschoolers
Books for School-aged kids
Books for Tweens and Teens

You can browse all of these categories by using the Category menu on the left hand side. If you are looking for a review about a specific book, search by title using the awesome Lijit search box on the right side of the NavBar.

The best of the best is listed on our 5 Star Reviews page.

Every Tuesday we host a different way for you to Join In our community events/carnivals. Right now we are also having a Fireworks over Toccoa bookclub

In addition to doing a review and giveaway every Monday on 5 Minutes for Mom in our 5 Minutes for Books column, we do book giveaways at least twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and oftentimes we throw in a few extras. Right now, we have several giveaways open from the Magic School Bus, a poetry book for tweens and teens, to Fireworks over Toccoa audiobook to a biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Check out (and enter!) all of our current giveaways now!

Thanks for stopping by. Leave us a comment telling us what types of book reviews most interest you, whether is the genre you like to read or the ages of your children for whom you are always looking for a good read.

Check out our current giveaways. Subscribe to our feed. Follow us @5M4B on Twitter.

I love books. I mean really, really love books. My mom was a librarian for years and my dad is one of those people who plans vacations by which bookstores are along the route. I like nonfiction…I used to prefer fiction before I had kids but now I can’t focus long enough to get into the story 99% of the time.

First and foremost, I enjoy finding books that challenge my 5 year old daughter (who is reading at a second grade level! yay).

    Myself? I love non-fiction in general. ๐Ÿ˜€

Since I’m a romance author, that’s my preferred genre, but I pretty much love to read anything.

I love historical romance or Christian Fiction book. My son is currently reading anything a 10 year old can get his hands on that has dragons or magic themes.

Hi there! Wow! I am finding all kinds of new and wonderful blogs through the party today!! I am an avid reader AND a homeschool mom, so we have LOTS of books and LOTS of interests. ๐Ÿ™‚ On my blog I have a link on the top of my page that says “book list” and there you will see all my favorites. ๐Ÿ™‚ Mostly things like Christian living type books (Crazy Love is a top favorite!) and homeschooling mom books, books for encouragement, etc. Nice to “meet” you today!!

I love books. This is a great site. Enjoying the party.

  23. Tina Hollenbeck says

Hi. I’d be interested in reviews that indicate a book’s position in terms of Judeo-Christian values. Especially for their independent reading, I want to know what’s in a book in that regard before I approve it for my girls to read.

  24. crystalp says

    April 9, 2010 at 10:21 am

I tend to read a lot, it is not surprising to find me reading more than 5 books at any given time… It would probably finish them quicker if I stuck to one, but I am a multi-tasker.

Hi! Stopping by from the blog party. I LOVE books of all kinds. I’m in a Slow Food book club, and I’m always buying cookbooks or books about ethical food, gardening, what have you.

I would love to tell you what genre of books I like to read but I have no idea. That’s what makes getting books so difficult for me.

  29. Laura says

    April 9, 2010 at 11:37 am

I’m visiting from #UBP10. I love to read Dean Koontz, Sidney Shelton & Mary Higgins-Clark. Mystery & suspense is my favorite (that book you just can’t put down).

This blog will come in handy for us! It’s hard to not judge a book by it’s cover, so this will be a great resource.

Reading a book is part of the bedtime routine I have for my daughter, we read on little book right before bed. She is 15 months, so any books for little ones if great. Thank you!

  41. Pattie says

    April 9, 2010 at 3:59 pm

I’m a mom of older kids, so anything from age 9-15 would be great to read reviews about–especially since teen girl fiction tends to be boy-crazy!

Hello! Visiting from UBP10, of course. We’re bibliophiles here, too. We were so excited when our son started showing an interest in books, and story time each night is a special part of our day.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

I enjoy reading too, but lately not enough time for leisure reading! I’ve tried to instill the interest in my children but now it’s up to them (at 18 and 23).
