John Butler’s Picture Books

May 7, 2013 by Carrie

If you don’t know who John Butler is, you are missing out. Seriously missing out. I’ve mentioned him before and I’m here to remind you of him again with these two titles from Peachtree Publishers.

Butler’s illustrations of animals are perfectly amazing. They are realistic, yet cartoonish. Approachable. Cuddly. And we’ve spent a lot of time with his books! My kids were excited to check out two new-to-us titles recently.

We have been longtime fans of Butler’s Ten In The Den and are all quite familiar with it. Now we’re enjoying Ten in the Meadow which features the same set of 10 animals.

This time these ten friends are playing hide-n-go-seek with one another. They search, they look and they find one another in patches of daisies, under leaves, and in trees. Terrifically cute and told in rhyme, this book is another of Butler’s to snatch up and enjoy with your little one.

Not having anything to do with Sandra Bullock, but still being cute and fun (ha), there’s While You Were Sleeping which has recently been reintroduced in board book form. Perfect for ages 0-18 months, this story explains what the animals are doing while the reader is asleep at night. A tiger goes hunting in the jungle, bears play in the snow, dolphins leap in the sea “and all the while, you were sleeping, safe and warm.” It’s an imaginative bedtime book that makes for fun reading.

These or any other of John Butler’s books come highly recommended by me and my bookworms. We’ve been fans and shall remain fans for some time to come.

Thanks to Peachtree Publishers for sending the above titles in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Carrie loves reading books with her children and she frequently shares about their read aloud options over at Reading to Know.

John Butler’s books were some of our favorites when the kids are little. They are the kind of books I will hold on to forever. Whose Baby Am I? is our favorite! He truly has a gift.

Love, love, love John Butler’s books. As much as the kids do! 🙂
