We’ve helped Relativity Media get the word out on Nicholas Sparks’ latest movie adaptation Safe Haven for a while now, and the movie is finally out (If you haven’t done so already, check out the Kindle giveaway that they are sponsoring here!)
After all this build up, you might be wondering about the movie. I got to see an advanced screening this week, and so I’m reporting in! My husband and I saw the movie together (yes, he was willing to go) in a theater packed with men and women from college age up to even older than me. The audience seemed to be very engaged. I heard surprised laughter several times, and more than one gasp of surprise. That’s always a good thing.
Yes, this movie adapted from Nicholas Sparks’ novel is a romance movie, a chick-flick if you will, however, as I said in my Safe Haven book review, this is a suspenseful sort of movie, not straight mushy gushy love.
The beginning felt a bit slow to me, but I think it’s just because I had read the book, and knew what the “real deal” was that they were trying to build interest in. The movie felt very true to the book, with a few details changed, of course, but nothing major. The location is beautiful, and so it was a movie that was fun to see on the big screen.
Whether you go on a date with your loved one or gather up some girlfriends this weekend, I think it’s the kind of movie that will appeal to many because of its humor, romance, suspense and drama (and a sort of surprise twist at the end!).
