As we all know, life has its ups and downs. In Sally John’s new book, A Journey by Chance, Dr. Gina Philips, a young veterinarian from Southern California, is experiencing a difficult time. Not only has she lost in love, but she has also lost the job of her dreams after experiencing a serious on-the-job injury. Although Gina has an escape from her problems when she travels to the Midwest for her cousin’s wedding, her attitude toward the small town of Valley Oaks and its “podunk” inhabitants doesn’t help to heal her injured spirit.
Of course, as Gina realizes when she meets Brady Olafsson, even small towns have their share of excitement. Although initially put-off by Brady’s self-assured manner, Gina learns that she and Brady have a connection from the past. As family secrets are revealed, Gina is forced to reflect on her life, her relationships, and her faith.
A Journey by Chance is the first novel in Sally John’s new series, The Other Way Home. If you enjoy contemporary Christian fiction, be sure to look for it. As I read this story, I couldn’t help but think about the preconceived ideas we have about so many aspects of our lives. So often, we have our plans for the future. Of course, we can’t write the scripts for our own lives; and we often realize, through good times and bad, that we don’t always know what is best. One of the aspects of Christian fiction that I appreciate is that I can enjoy a good story while also reflecting on my own beliefs and habits. If Christian fiction appeals to you in this way as well, be sure to read Sally John’s A Journey by Chance. I look forward to the future books in the series.

Thanks for the intro of this book! I can’t wait to read it, esp since it’s the first book of the series. Am I alone that I don’t like to read books out of order? Haha, I just read the part in the blog about “podunk”…. having grown up in the sticks and knowing all about podunks, it’ll be interesting to see how close this is to my own life! 🙂 Happy 2009!
