Sometimes, I like to lose myself in a series of books. After reading several stories about the same characters, I start to feel like I really know them, like they are family. Several years ago, I read the Love Comes Softly series by Janette Oke. Although I didn’t read them until after the Hallmark series came out, I am always partial to the written word, and I enjoyed following Clark, Marty, and their growing family through all eight novels.
I recently opened a box of review copies, and I found Like Gold Refined, the fourth book in the Prairie Legacy series, by Mrs. Oke. I was delighted when I realized that this series continues the story of Clark and Marty’s family, primarily through the lives of their grandchildren.
Janette Oke’s writing is heartwarming. Her books are perfect for reading under a cozy blanket during the colder months. The stories are simple, but they inspire me to remember the importance of faith and family. Now that I have read Like Gold Refined, I can’t wait to go back and read the first three books in the series. If you prefer to read them in order, as I usually do, be sure to look for The Tender Years; it is the first title in the Prairie Legacy series.
If you are familiar with the Love Comes Softly series, be sure to check out these books. You will feel like you are returning for a visit with old friends.

Oh, my — I hadn’t heard this was out. I am going to have to add it to my Christmas list…if I can wait that long.
I love Janette Oke and am so glad to see a new title from her. This series was one of my favorites, and I especially liked A Quiet Strength. I was instructed in some things about marriage even though the couple in the book were newlyweds and I had been married a couple of decades.

Oops — I just looked on my shelf and saw it was there (blush). I had thought it was a new book in the series.

I read this four book series a few years ago, and loved it. I always felt like there should have been another book after the fourth one though. I wanted to know more of what happened to the characters.

I started reading some of these, or some of the other ones that she did before these… and I just couldn’t handle Marty and Clark getting old and what that could mean for future plot lines… I read the Love Comes Softly series for the first time when I was in 3rd grade – and they’re my people you know? Its like the reason I can’t watch the movies – they’re just so far off, and you can’t do that to my friends you know? Even the first one that was closer had me screaming by the end: “BUT THATS NOT HIS NAME!!!!” (And lets not even go into Missy being too old in that one too…and who knows how many other things I would have caught if my set of the books hasn’t been semi missing packed up in a box for about 2 or 3 years now!)
um yeah…so we were supposed to be talking about these new books and not my issues with the movies…oops!
