Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at 5 Minutes for Books!
When I (Jennifer) try to count my blessings, of course I think about books. I’ve read some lovely books this year, as have my children. When I think of giving thanks, the things that come to mind are things that have made my life richer, or easier, or more enjoyable, and so why not think of specific books?
I’ll share a few in the comments, and I hope you will too. Leave a comment and tell us about a book or two for which you are thankful that you read this year or shared with a child.
Yes, yes- Thankful for books! I am really grateful for the 40 Days with Dietrich Bonhoeffer that was shared through BibleGateway this year…it is fantastic. ANd I adored reading The Jesus Storybook Bible…even though I am all grown up! Happy Thanksgiving!
I haven’t read any Dietrich Bonhoeffer, but I really need to change that.
I have, however, make a conscious effort this year to read more Christian theology and discipleship, and I’m thankful I did.
I’m thankful for my jag of lighter reading that I went on this Spring. The Making of Us by Lisa Jewell is a book that is still sticking with me. So happy to have discovered her.
I am also thankful that my 3rd grade son has dug in deep to books, reading the Origami Yoda series (3 short books) back to back to back.
And right now I’m enjoying Wish You Were Eyre (Mother Daughter Book Club) with my daughter, and I am thankful that even though she’s 14, she and I enjoy a read-aloud together, AND that because of this book she’s discovered and enjoyed Jane Eyre herself.
I’m very thankful for books. We lived overseas in francophone countries for 10 years, and it was very difficult to find books in English to read. I shipped boxes and boxes, but had still read all my books to death. Now I’m living in the US, part of the team here at 5MFB, and I am overwhelmed with books! It’s nice. Feast or famine, sure, but it’s nice.
Right now, I’ve got 3 that I’m really excited to read! Authors: Herman Wouk, Barbara Kingsolver, Ian McEwan. Doesn’t that just say it all?
Always!! I have had a love affair with books for as long as I can remember, and I cannot imagine a life without them. 🙂 That being said, I’m also thankful for the fact that I don’t have much work-work to do this weekend so that I can actually enjoy reading some books!
