‘Tis the season! Jolly or otherwise, it that time of year when children and their parents have to start focusing on school. For some, that means buying backpacks and packing lunches, and for others it means sitting down around the dining room table with the parents, working on facts and figures. Whether you attend public, private or are home schooled, the fact of the matter is that supplemental materials are sometimes useful and oftentimes necessary to help children grasp certain concepts in their schooling. Enter: Flash Kids.
Flash Kids offers bright, full-colored workbooks, math games and free downloads to help you help your children succeed in their educational pursuits, particularly in the area of math, reading, and language arts skills. These educational materials were created by former educators and parents and they are designed to both challenge the child as well as to keep them focused on their work. In order to help achieve these goals, Flash Kids workbooks are filled with full-color illustrations and happy-looking artwork to make the work more appealing. All of their materials were designed in accordance with national standards and cover Pre-K through sixth grades.
I was offered a few of their resources as samples as in exchange for my thoughts. They graciously allowed me to select which titles were of the most interest to me and my family and so I browsed their website looking for something that would be challenging for my oldest son, in particular. Some publisher websites can be very difficult to navigate but I did not find that to be the case with Flash Kids. They have things neatly organized by grade and by subject and there are sample pages from the titles which are available to view and download. This helped me to pinpoint which books from which grades would the most valuable for us to use. Also, they provide a basic list of concepts which a child in, say, first grade should be introduced to and be able to work with. By using their website I selected the following items for our family’s use. Also, I have the pleasure of giving away the same set of books to one of you!
- Multiplication War (Flash Kids Flash Cards)
- The Complete Book of Sight Words
- Math for the Gifted Student Grade 2
- Preschool Skills: Colors and Shapes
And yes, I do realize that list is a little eclectic! (The first three titles are for our oldest son’s use. We’re starting first grade this year. He’s a slow reader but is fast with numbers!) We couldn’t leave out Bookworm2 (age 3) so we explored the book of shapes and colors with him. Now he has some school to do as well!
We’ve dabbled with these books a bit and they seem a perfect fit for where Bookworm1 (age 5) is in particular. We are pleased with what we’ve seen thus far. (Bookworm2 likes his book as well. He was proud to have received it alongside of his older brother’s books!)
Thank you, Flash Kids, for sending copies of the above titles in my direction in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you also for your generosity in providing another set for one of our readers!
Would you like to win a copy of each of the titles I’ve listed above? Simply leave a comment below.

I’d love to win these! Thanks!
I’d love these – my boys are the same age and we sure could use the sight words for reading. The math might be for a bit further down the road this year (not a number whiz yet) but would be so great for when he’s there and our little guy would love the shapes and colours book
Please enter me. I am a very involved grandmother of several, one is in second grade.
