I am a mom of four sons. Yes, four. Yes, sons. As such, I am well acquainted with the “loud and rowdy life” Jean Blackmer celebrates in her book Boy-sterous Living: Celebrating Your Loud and Rowdy Life with Sons. Loud and rowdy—I so live there.
In Boy-sterous Living Jean shares her own experiences as the mom of sons, experiences that are often hilarious and sometimes poignant. From the challenges of communicating with young offspring of the opposite gender to their puzzling pursuit of adventure (with safety as an afterthought, if that), moms of sons of all ages will find encouragement in Jean’s honest appraisal of life on the blue side.
Parenting sons is no easy task and sometimes, like when your son shaves his eyebrows (one of those funny experiences Jean shares in the book), you just have to laugh. Our children, boys or girls or both, are gifts from our Creator, the Giver of all good things and as such should be celebrated, however loud and however rowdy. I have one 2 year old son and he was visiting his grandparents when he announced -Want to see my butt? Then he proceeded to drop his pants and underwear. He then just grinned so we just had to laugh.
I am a mom of a two year old boy. And every day brings something disgusting, like picking something up (boys are so quick) from a dirty ground and popping in their mouth and eating it before you can get to him – omg spaghetti – the first time it was all over him, his chair and the walls and floor.
