I am a mom of four sons. Yes, four. Yes, sons. As such, I am well acquainted with the “loud and rowdy life” Jean Blackmer celebrates in her book Boy-sterous Living: Celebrating Your Loud and Rowdy Life with Sons. Loud and rowdy—I so live there.
In Boy-sterous Living Jean shares her own experiences as the mom of sons, experiences that are often hilarious and sometimes poignant. From the challenges of communicating with young offspring of the opposite gender to their puzzling pursuit of adventure (with safety as an afterthought, if that), moms of sons of all ages will find encouragement in Jean’s honest appraisal of life on the blue side.
Parenting sons is no easy task and sometimes, like when your son shaves his eyebrows (one of those funny experiences Jean shares in the book), you just have to laugh. Our children, boys or girls or both, are gifts from our Creator, the Giver of all good things and as such should be celebrated, however loud and however rowdy. And that is the thrust of Boy-sterous Living.
We have a signed copy of Boy-sterous Living to give away to TWO 5 Minutes for Books readers (U.S. shipping addresses only). Leave a comment on this post to be considered. The winners will be announced on September 30.
But, wait! There’s even more fun! Want to win movie tickets and a snack for you and a friend to escape? Enter your grossest or funniest moment as a mom of a boy (No boys? That’s okay – we still want to hear your story!) by emailing your entry to [email protected] or by posting it on the Moms Raising Boys Facebook page.
Jean Blackmer wrote a special guest post for 5 Minutes for Mom about teaching manners. Check out her thoughts on Mr. and Mrs. . . or Not? (complete with a some totally boy-humor) in her guest post over at 5 Minutes for Mom today.

I am the mom of a 2-year-old-boy and a 3-month-old girl, and I am amused and scared by my son pretty much every day :)My friends with kids the same age all have girls and they look at my son like he’s an alien, but a cool one. There’s never a dull moment with a boy around. Hats off to you for raising 4!

I have two boys. When they were born, everyone on my side of the family said “But we don’t know what to do with boys!!” Somehow my side is girls, girls, girls. And I assumed I’d have girls too. Now of course I wouldn’t trade my precious boys for the world, but sometimes they are mysterious creatures to me. I would love to read this book!

I have a friend from church who has 5 BOYS (12, 8, 6, 3, and 4 mo.)! Her last one was born in May, and the gender was a surprise until he was born…needless to say, no one was too surprised when it turned out to be a fifth boy. Needless to say, with so many boys around, there’s an awful lot of tackle football and wrestling that goes on. 🙂 I’d love to have a copy of this book to give to her – I know she’d enjoy having some laughs, since she spends most of her days trying to keep track of her 5 active guys. 🙂

I’m the mom of 3 boys (6,4, and 11 months) and 1 girl. This week the 6 year old wanted to take a ball bat to the 4 year old. The 4 year old used a crayon on my teak dresser and a rug. And the 11 month old was found splashing his hand in a toilet. Have mercy! It didn’t seem so bad until I wrote it all down! No wonder I always need a nap!!
