When Did I Get Like This?: The Screamer, the Worrier, the Dinosaur-Chicken-Nugget-Buyer, and Other Mothers I Swore I’d Never Be is a book of essays from Amy Wilson. I had expected humor, and she delivered that, but I was surprised that many of them were also delivered with introspection and heart.
They read like blog posts — the kind of Mommy blogger who writes candidly with no-holds-barred — but they are nicely indexed, so that you could read straight through, or just skip around (or return to a favorite).
Wilson’s essays address topics from pregnancy to preschool (and beyond), co-parenting, sibling rivalry, friends and more. She even delicately tackles the taboo such as fears and worries, liking one child more than the other, and losing her temper.
This book would make a great Mother’s Day gift for a sister or friend who is in the trenches of motherhood.
In honor of the paperback release of When Did I Get Like This?: The Screamer, the Worrier, the Dinosaur-Chicken-Nugget-Buyer, and Other Mothers I Swore I’d Never Be, we have copies to give away to TWO of you (U.S. and Canada are both eligible). Please leave a comment if you’d like to win, and we’ll announce the winners on May 18.
We also have a special giveaway for moms over at 5 Minutes for Mom today. Read my review of Daily Guideposts for Your First Year of Motherhood at 5 Minutes for Mom. I could use the laugh! LOL I was such a screamer with my first children many years ago(34)and have a lot of guilt about it….. I’m much better now with my 10 year old BUT I do have the occasional moment and then it’s back to the guilt of old. Definitely could use this book!
