In 2008, I reviewed My Name Is Not Isabella by Jennifer Fosberry. This book is a delightful picture book geared toward young girls. I enjoyed it so much that I named it a 5 Star Read. Jennifer Fosberry now has a book titled My Name Is Not Alexander for young boys.
The format of this book is the same as My Name Is Not Isabella: young Alexander wakes up and spends the day pretending to be famous men from the past. The men include Theodore Roosevelt, Chief Joseph, Thomas Edison, Fred Astaire, and Jackie Robinson. Alexander also pretends to be his dad, which I love because parents should be role models and heroes for their children. As Alexander and his father talk back and forth throughout the day, Jennifer Fosberry creatively includes information about the famous men in their conversations. This book is a wonderful springboard for further discovery and learning, and the fantastic illustrations are fun and lively.
Like My Name Is Not Isabella, My Name Is Not Alexander is a fabulous addition to any children’s book collection, and I recommend it so much that I am adding it to our 5 Star Reads category. I encourage you to pick up a copy for yourself!
If you would like to see Alexander develop from pencil to print, be sure to check out the video.
