I believe my love affair with books began long before I could read to myself. My mom would read Where the Wild Things Are to me and in my mind I could imagine the thick forest and Max basking in his role as King of the Wild Things.
I graduated to the The Chronicles of Narnia in elementary school and then to the Anne of Green Gables series. I was that child, staying up late with the flashlight under the covers, reading.
Even though my taste has been refined by years and lots of good reads, I have never been able to put a good book down. While at college, I spent a whole day at Panera, sipping tea and weeping over The Singer Trilogy by Calvin Miller. I spent my first ever night in London cuddled up in the bathtub of our hotel room with a pillow so I could finish reading The Secret Life of Bees without waking my sister. I almost had to manually hold my eyelids open on a 14 hour flight from Auckland to Johannesburg because I was so tired, but I just could not stop reading The Kite Runner.

I too have a love affair with books. I have to spend at least 5-10 minutes per night reading a chapter from a book… tonight I am going to finish reading “Cornfield Heiress” by Errollynne Peters, a great memoir about the most amazing woman and her amazing life! I would be such a basket-case without books!
