Merry Christmas from all of us here at 5 Minutes for Books.
We never for a minute take any of you for granted. We love working with publishers, authors, and PR firms who introduce us to most of the books that we share with you, and we wouldn’t be able to do that if we didn’t have loyal followers who were interested in what we have to say.
So I wonder, did you get (or even give) any books for Christmas?
I received a book from a dear friend and fellow reader in the mail. I had come across it when writing my review for The Water is Wide and added it to my amazon wishlist in hopes that someone might come across it. It’s Pat Conroy’s book My Reading Life. I haven’t cracked the cover, but I do have it with me and hope to get to it soon.
My husband’s grandmother also gave me a book this morning, Patrick Taylor’s An Irish Country Christmas, which will be fun to read.
So what about you? Did you get any books? Are there any you hoped for that weren’t delivered?
No books 🙁
Oh no, Brooke! What a dreadful Christmas. 😉
I hope Santa was good to you in other ways.
I got Snow Day, Indoor Grilling For Dummies, and a book about building effective women’s ministries – can’t remember the title.
Indoor Grilling for Dummies sounds like it will be helpful.
I got Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff. I’m fascinated by powerful historical women and have been dying to read it!!
I’ve heard such good things about that book, Deanna! The author was on NPR’s The Diane Rehm Show and was so enthusiastic and engaging that I imagine the book will be incredibly interesting.
I love it when people match the book to the person well. Sounds good.
My hubby got me a book I’ve been wanting since before it even came out- Earth (The Book) by Jon Stewart and his hilarious Daily Show crew! Lots of fun reading in my near future. 🙂
I’ve heard about THAT book on NPR, I believe.
I gave some wonderful children’s books for gifts, but I was lucky enough to receive the new Kindle from my son and DIL!
Now I have to figure out how to reconcile having a house full of books along with an eReader.
Linda–be sure to regularly browse the “top 100 free” books list on the Kindle page. Many authors put their backlist titles on there to generate interest. I’ve found great books there — FREE!
I got Lost at School by Ross Greene (author of The Explosive Child) and Autism and Alleluias by Kathleen Deyer Bolduc. Also a Amazon gift certificate from my boss, so there are more books to be picked out soon!
Sounds like some educational reading, Trish. Use the $ to splurge on some pleasure reading!
I recently read and reviewed Pat Conroy’s new book, and loved it — hope you will too 🙂
My daughter gave me a beautiful volume of Dickens’ Christmas stories; I am thrilled because she remembered how much I love Dickens, and because I have never read many of these!
He’s a great writer, and it’s about books, so I’m thinking I can’t go wrong!
I am glad that you got a thoughtful and appreciated book gift this year!!
Nope. My family refuses to get me books since I get so many review books. I even listed a few I’d like to own that I can’t get for review and they know I keep very few so If I want to own it, it’s a book I’d refer back to. Still no books. 🙁
I get that, Callista. In fact, I’m okay if I don’t get books because so many come into my home, but I do still love receiving them (and have to hold myself back from buying them!).
I didn’t get any books this year unless you count my Soduko puzzles. But I did give about 10 of them out, more than a few on recommendations from here! I also gave one I won from you in the summer to a nephew as it had a fox as the ‘bad guy’ and that would devestate my son as his beloved stuffie is a fox. It was well received so THANK YOU!
I love giving books that I’ve won or received and weren’t a good fit!!
No books, but hubby did get me the Nook Color and a gift card so I can buy myself some books.
Perfect!!
My daughter won a drawing prize at her school–$15 to the local book store (which is Powells…we are so blessed here in Ptld 🙂 She bought me “Arabian Jazz” for Christmas. Also, when I was buying books for other family members, I inadvertantly bought myself 2. Whoops! ;)Oh, er, I guess it was 3.
