JENNIFER
- Kyle’s school is reading The Lemonade War, and this week I downloaded the sequel that Jacqueline Davies has written, The Lemonade Crime, from NetGalley. It doesn’t publish until May 2011, but the timing was good for us.
- Don’t Sing at the Table: Life Lessons from My Grandmothers is a foray into narrative nonfiction by popular novelist Adriana Trigiani.
- Falling Home (come back on 11/3 for a review and giveaway)
NANCY
Just when I thought my mailbox would remain empty this week – save for bills and endless catalogs – I received You Don’t Look Like Anyone I Know, which I won in a GoodReads giveaway. I’m not a huge memoir reader but the story of a woman who doesn’t reliably recognize people’s faces sounds fascinating.
DAWN
- Halloween is right around the corner, so DK’s Supernatural was much welcomed by my oldest child. I’ve begun to read through it myself, and I’ll admit to getting a little spooked the other night!
- Short, fable-like stories with a twist, like only David Sedaris can write, make up Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk, which I’m excited to begin!
- In a renewed attempt to connect with my “tween” son, I’m looking forward to focusing on some positivity by using the i like book with him, designed to function as a journal of sorts to record the things that parents appreciate about their children.
- When I first read about The Word Made Flesh: Literary Tattoos from Bookworms Worldwide, I was curious so I’m happy to report that it is now sitting in place on my TBR shelf. Maybe I’ll get an idea… hmmmmm….

I left a comment, but there was no message saying that it “took,” was awaiting moderation, or anything. So I’m trying again!

I’m curious about Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk! I’ve loved Sedaris’s other books.

Yes, although the reviews are pretty evenly mixed on Amazon between love and hate… it’s a bit different so far, but I’m falling more on the positive side than the negative.
RAnn says
Nice selection!

Yes, that’s how I’m feeling right now… but who knows, maybe this book will be inspirational! 🙂

Well, I’m thinking that might not be the most appropriate way to describe this one… I’ve read a couple of the stories, and they’re quite dark… I’m looking forward to writing up the review!

I’ve only read a few stories so far, but they’ve got a fair share of Sedaris’ off-beat sense of humor!

Thanks for all of your book recommendations! I pick the ones my kids will like, and then we read them before bed. I found a website that buys back books for cash. When we’re finished reading them, we sell them back to http://www.mybookcart.com.
