One night last week, my husband brought home the movie, Into The Wild. He read the book on summer vacation last August, and he was anxious to see the screen version. We got our popcorn and drinks and hunkered down on the couch to watch our latest flick rental.
Without giving away the ending, I can say that it is the story of a young man who left home after college graduation, threw away all his worldly possessions including his car, and opted to live a solitary life that eventually led him to the wilderness of Alaska. In his travels, he met a variety of interesting and quirky characters who certainly add interest to the story. I enjoyed it, mainly because it’s based on a true story, and that kind of movie ALWAYS appeals to me. I love seeing real life depicted on screen.
My husband, who read the book by Jon Krakauer, said it was one of the best “books on screen” that he has ever seen. He said that Chris McCandless’s story was a bit strange, and the movie captured that perfectly. He thought it was very true to the book.
Be warned. It’s not a light movie. But it’s well worth your time when you’re in the mood for a true story.

I need to read the book. His book on Mt. Everest, Into Thin Air, is one of my favorite books ever. He put you ON that mountain with those people (those crazy people).
Great review. Thanks.
We have the movie on our netflix list. Now I’m really looking forward to watching it.

I’ve read the book, and the movie is actually on my shelf waiting to be watched. I enjoyed the book, though I found McCandless to be a deeply unlikeable person.

What a coincidence! We just watched this movie last night. Have not read the book but found the movie intense, even more so because it is a true story. My DH cannot watch it a second time!I found McCandless, although likeable on the surface, to be a very troubled and tragic character.
We just watched this movie last week and it lingered in my mind for several days.Really a good and intense story… gave us several great conversations after, too.
I watched this movie last week with my boys and enjoyed it so much that I want to read the book.
