Yes, you are correct. When I checked the weather report last it looked to be a little on the dark and chilly side. So of course now is the time to be reading books that make you feel all warm and cozy, right? Barefoot Books seems to be offering a few get-aways for your imagination this winter season. The first comes in the form of Daddy Island. This is the story of a little boy who believes he is everything and can do anything so long as he is with his daddy. He can be a storm and shout very loud, and he can be the sand, whispering very, very quietly. He can be a rock, strong and firm and also has the comfort of finding his daddy to be the perfect place to rest upon and dream both the night and his future away. This is a great book about daddies, painting the picture of perfect strength and constancy. I found it quite charming. The illustrations were also on the whimsical side with more rounded, flow-y lines that depicted waves rising and crashing. Niki Daly did a great job illustrating the point of this story by Philip Wells and it’s worth checking out.
An Island in the Sun is a perfect “I-spy-with-my-little-eye” adventure! Little eyes spy dolphins, birds, and tangly trees on far off islands under a big blue sky. There are not too many words on a page. The illustrations are done in such a way as to encourage children to use their own little eyes to follow along with the story. This book is simplistic and yet detailed both in illustration and thought. My two year old son enjoyed following along with the boy sailing away on his boat in search of adventure. Great book.
Yet again I find myself very impressed with Barefoot Books and what they offer to the young reader. If you haven’t had a chance to check out their website, I would highly encourage you to! I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
Carrie comes by her book obsession honestly, having descended from a long line of bibliophiles. She blogs about books regularly at Reading to Know.

I’m so thrilled that you’ve been writing some great posts about Barefoot Books!! I found them myself about a year ago and started selling them last winter. Both of these titles are BIG HITS in my house!! And . . . Barefoot is having a HUGE sale starting 12/29, and I know that Daddy Island is hugely discounted. A really great buy. Thanks for the reviews!!
