Today, my children will bust through our front door in the early afternoon, and summer break will have officially begun. (Thank you, Harsh Winter, for the extended school year.) We have a tradition in our house of giving a gift to each child on the last day of school, and you will likely not be surprised to hear that the gift is always a book. What better way to start off summer break than with one brand new book to call your own?
My schedule gets a bit lighter in the summer along with the children’s, so I’m happily looking forward to some lazy reading of my own. Just yesterday, I began a book that I had borrowed from my local library. You may have heard of it… actually, I think I may be the last person I know to not have read it already– Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. (Shhh… don’t tell me anything. I literally know nothing of the story other than the fact that the girl is gone!)
I’ve also recently begun the new book by Aziz Ansari and Eric Klinenberg, Modern Romance, which is a mixture of sociology and humor, and it’s totally fascinating, even for a middle-aged mom who has been off the dating scene for more than twenty years!
I know that many more books await me this summer, as does my favorite deck chair in the shade at my community pool. How about you? What’s on your nightstand? (Or on your bookshelf or in your pool bag?) Link up with us below.

So if you read Gone Girl, that will elevate me to the top position of last person to read it. ha. I’ll wait to hear what you say before I pick it up though. I heard an excerpt from Modern Romance audiobook (read, sort of, by Aziz Ansari) and it sounded hilarious. I may try to listen to it soon.

Ha! I wasn’t alone? I’m enjoying it so far, but I’m bummed that I have things to do in real life and can’t just read nonstop! 🙂
