Mailbox Monday

October 7, 2012 by Nancy

Mailbox Monday is hosted this month at the Mailbox Monday blog.

This book review gig is a sweet deal. Most of the books we review are pitched to us, but thanks to our relationship with publishers and public relations firms, we can also request books we really want to read. And that’s what I did for The Mark of Athena, the latest (last?) in Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus series. It landed on my doorstop Tuesday, the day it released, and I can’t wait to get started.

Another book I got this week is actually one I did not request, at least intentionally. It was included in an aforementioned pitch, and when filling out the Google doc request form, I must have pushed the wrong button. Oops! So now I have Blood Line by Lynda La Plante. It’s the 7th in a series of crime thrillers, not a genre I read a whole lot of but I do make the occasional exception.

Cold Light by Jenn Ashworth was described in the pitch as an “atmospheric mystery” and my curiosity was piqued by that description. I do like this type of psychological thriller and it’s ready and waiting on my Kindle.

Also on my Kindle, I downloaded Jane Austen’s Emma. I love that classics are free for Kindle.

How about you, what new books have come into your life this week? I’d love to hear what you’re finding!

Last book?? Is this series not going to be five books like the others? Oh no. (My copy will be here this week care of Amazon.) 🙂

I’m not sure, which is why I put last in parentheses. I thought I read early on that there would only be 3 books in the series, which makes sense since each of the first 2 is about each camp, with the last bringing them together. Also the Kane Chronicles was only 3 books. Ah, but checking Goodreads, there’s already a title for book 4 so I guess I was wrong!
