The 2012 Cybils nominations are just around the corner, and this year we’re happy to announce we have three of our 5 Minutes for Books members serving as judges. Jennifer is moving from round 1 to round 2 for Middle Grade Fiction, Dawn is also moving from round 1 to round 2 in Fiction Picture Books, and Nancy is thrilled to be serving as a round 2 judge for Easy Readers/Short Chapter Books. The Cybils are a wonderful way for children’s literature and the bloggers who love them to come together and we are all very excited to be a part of it.
While nominations aren’t accepted until October 1, now is a good time to start thinking about the books you would like to nominate. Just a few rules to keep in mind:
- Books must be published between October 16, 2011 and October 15, 2012
- Only one book can be nominated per category, per person. So if you nominate a book in Fiction Picture Books, you cannot nominate any other book in that category. Each person can nominate one book in each category. For a list of categories, and some hints as to where a book might fall, check out the list of 2011 Cybils finalists.
- A book can only be nominated once, so if your favorite book already has a nomination, think of another worthy contender.
- Books must be in English.
That’s it! Easy peasy (lemon squeezy, as my 5 year old would say). Finalists are announced January 1, and that’s when our jobs as round 2 judges come in. We will read every finalist, confer with the other judges, and then the winners will be announced on Valentine’s Day.
So go cull through your library checkout history, talk to your kids, or scour their shelves and get ready to make those nominations on October 1.
