While reading is one of my favorite hobbies, I’ve also been a TV addict for as long as I can remember. As a child I’d come home from school and watch Three’s Company and Little House on the Prairie reruns; in high school I did my homework while watching that day’s episode of Days of Our Lives, recorded on the VCR.
So Jennifer Weiner’s newest (and tenth) novel, The Next Best Thing, is right up my alley. Ruth Saunders was in a car accident as a toddler, leaving her with severe facial damage. Ruth spent a good portion of her childhood in the hospital, having multiple surgeries and losing herself in episodes of The Golden Girls. She grows up to become a writer and moves herself and the grandmother who raised her across the country, hoping to land a job as a television writer.

Nancy loves both television and reading, though it’s hard to do both at the same time. She also blogs at Life With My Boys and Books.
