In the year 2012, in our American culture, could you imagine anyone you know pursuing an arranged marriage? I have to admit that I can’t– not myself (if I weren’t already married) or any of my friends, even the single ones who might wish they were otherwise. But somehow this plot becomes believable and highly engaging in Catherine McKenzie’s new novel Arranged, and from the various posts I’ve read in my social media circles, I’m not the only one talking about the provocative theme of this book.

I actually CAN see the benefits of an arranged marriage…anything seems better than the crazy dating stories I hear from my single friends and family members! With divorce rates up over 50%, can arranged marriages possibly have less success than traditional marriages?
