Even as an adult, I love a good coming-of-age story, for there can be such beauty and innocence in the telling. That’s definitely the case with Jennifer Gooch Hummer’s debut novel Girl Unmoored.
Though the story features significant loss, this is a tale of finding inner strength and conviction, even when you’re only in seventh grade and seemingly with no one in your corner. Hummer’s protagonist is likely stronger than most give her credit for, and she just needs to learn that for herself.
