Real, with Giveaway

December 10, 2011 by Jennifer

Real – The Book from David Malcolm on Vimeo.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. This book exemplifies that, with a half page picture accompanied by a two columns of text. This video is worth much more than that, and trumps anything that I could say about Shelley Malcom and Terilee Dawn Ouimette’s book Real.

They bring us stories of courage, hope, renewal, work, dreams, purpose, love and more, categorized by chapter. As a reader, I felt privileged to get a glimpse of these stories that people like Jamaine, Carol, George, Aaron, and Douglas were willing to share. There are stories of homelessness, addiction, avocation. There are obstacles presented: brain tumors, mastectomy, accidents. The support of family, friends, and philanthropists help them persevere.

This work was a labor of love, an answer to a call felt by Malcolm and Ouimette. 100% of the proceeds go to various charities. You can find out more at marthamartha.net/ In addition to Real, the book, you can also buy notecards and bookmarks featuring these stories and photographs.

We have a copy for one of you! Leave a comment if you’d like to win (U.S. shipping only). We’ll announce the winner in our giveaway column on December 21. The Giveaway is closed.

I love the photography and I know i would be drawn in by the stories, as well as inspired and encouraged.
I would pass this on to my daughter who needs something positive in her life and finds art therapeutic.

I love the fact that it is inspiring, we all need hope in this changing world we live it. It is nice to see that people can trudge through the dark to have the light illuminate them. Thank you for bringing us something of hope. Thank you for the chance to win this book.
