On Reading: Books and Tea

December 13, 2009 by Jennifer

This time of year as the weather turns cooler, there is nothing like curling up with a book and a nice hot beverage. I’m a coffee drinker, but there’s something about a nice afternoon cup of tea that pairs perfectly with an escape into the pages.

One of the first times I visited our reviewer Carrie’s blog, Reading to Know, I fell in love with a quote that was part of her blog design at the time: “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me” C.S. Lewis.

This is one of the quotes featured on the tea tag of Novel Teas sold by Bag Ladies Tea. I was offered a sample of these teas, and I am completely delighted by them! What a great gift to give to a friend who needs a pick-me-up, perhaps paired with a new juicy novel.

25 tea bags (each with a bookish quote featured on the tea tag) sell for $12.50, and a cute 5-pack box costs $2.50. The bags ares English Breakfast tea, and while it’s not the finest tea leaves I’ve ever steeped, it’s not bad either. I’m not a tea snob, but I do like a good sturdy brew, and this tea from Bag Ladies Tea fills the cup. And the packaging is so delightful that it’s fun to give and to enjoy yourself.

Here are some other fun bookish quotes that I’ve been keeping track of:

Groucho Marx: Outside of a dog there’s nothing better than a book. Inside a dog it’s too dark to read.

Max Medina, in Gilmore Girls, season 1 finale: I studied and taught the great literature all my life. And those stories are replete with characters that let opportunities slip by, but what I teach is more than literature, it’s lessons in life. If I don’t follow these tenets, I’m not the man I thought I was, the man I want to be.

Lainie in Everyone is Beautiful by Katherine Center: I’d forgotten how much TV could pull you out of your own world. Books were a good distraction, but TV was like not even being there at all.

Do you have a favorite quote about the literary life? Do you know of someone who would adore Novel Teas?

What a clever idea. I like their choice of a name. Hadn’t ever heard of them before so thanks for the mention. (And thanks for the link!)

    Dear Sirs,

You will be happy to know that something is happening some where in the tea industry towards the benefit of tea lovers and tea traders.

The tea book titled “TEA TASTER: How to become a tea taster?” is the first scientific book to help tea tasters, tea traders and tea researchers in a big way. This is to implement an unbiased error free technique to test, taste and develop Super blends for the market.

You can have more details at:
    http://tea-taster.blogspot.com/

You can buy a copy, read and use liberally to use it innovatively.
Preserve a copy of the tea book, TEA TASTER: It is Worth Gold.

It really is amazing to have a tea and a book combined for the morning before engaging an activity. It also is good to end the day with it as well.
