I am just going to let you know straight away that I am really impressed with the Kids’ Bible Dictionary from Barbour Books. Illustrated and in full color, this book provides definitions, pictures, covers places, animals and Jewish holidays. It is an extremely helpful and useful tool for a younger kid who is reading through scriptures. Or, it can also be used as a family tool when reading Bible stories together. Or it can be used for research projects. Or . .. or . . . or!
Each entry and definition is followed up with scripture references so that you can find examples of what you are looking to explain. That also makes this book easy to use if you are just a dictionary lover who likes to learn new words and discover their meaning. (I’m NOT one of those people but I’ve heard of them.) The definitions are straight forward and easy for an early grade school student to easily comprehend. Maps are also included to help illustrate stories. Famous artwork is used to give children picture images of age old Bible stories, the well-known ones and the lesser known ones. Beginning with Aaron (brother of Moses) and ending with Zophar (friend of Job), this book covers a large amount of material and, I’ll say it again, is a good resource of information.
Barbour has really published a great tool here and I wholeheartedly recommend it to you as being worth every single penny (and then some)! The pictures and layout makes perusal of this book a delight and I think you would be hard pressed to find flaws with it. It’s pretty awesome.
Carrie comes by her book obsession honestly, having descended from a long line of bibliophiles. She blogs about books regularly at Reading to Know.
