One of the first memories I have of politics is Ronald Reagan’s speech accepting the Republican Nomination for President in 1980. I was mesmerized by this man who became our President. I thought he was charming, well-spoken and sincere. Reading
I Love You, Ronnie: The Letters of Ronald Reagan to Nancy Reagan
confirmed that I was right.
Former First Lady Nancy Reagan has been gracious enough to allow readers a glimpse into the private lives of an up-and-coming actress who went on a blind date with well-known actor, Ronald Reagan. For her, it was love at first sight. Although it took Reagan a little longer, his correspondence reveals a man who was smitten. As their relationship deepened, his letters were filled with his obvious love, respect, and admiration for Nancy.
Her narrative gives an explanation of the surrounding circumstances, but the letters speak for themselves. My favorite (written on White House stationery):
I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. And besides that – I love you.
Beginning with his first love letter and ending with his public letter announcing that he had Alzheimer’s, I Love You, Ronnie: The Letters of Ronald Reagan to Nancy Reagan
is the fabulous story of a rarity in today’s world – a famous and powerful couple who put each other first and remained in love for a lifetime.

I read this book a long while back and it brought tears to my eyes. They were just so smitten with one another and very kind and loving. This was a couple that was truly in love with one another and cared for each other. That is admirable no matter what side of the political coin you fall on!
