Oh how I love a good baby book. No, not a book full of day by day pictures of your precious bundle of joy, and locks of hair, and christening invitations. I mean a book made for babies.
I’ve proclaimed again and again my love for the sturdy board book (I know, I need to get over myself!), but even before board books there is a wonderful class of books that appeal to babies. These books usually feature tags or textures or sounds with little or no text and simple pictures.
I recently received two new books by Guido van Genechten: Crinkle Animals Jungle and Crinkle Animals Garden. These soft fabric wordless books from the international publisher Clavis picture one animal per page grouped by theme.
And of course as the name would suggest, inside the soft yet seemingly durable fabric books there is something that makes the books even more fun for curious little babies — crinkle!
These books would make a great baby gift, or would be fun to have on hand for visiting babies to touch and enjoy.
Jennifer Donovan doesn’t necessarily miss her children’s baby years, but she is finding that since 6-year-old Kyle and 12-year-old Amanda have left them long behind, she gets wistful for some of the “stuff.” Read about more of her hang-ups at her blog Snapshot.
Those definitely look cute. I like their light and neutral colors which doesn’t leave you wondering if you should get them for a newbie mom who is keeping the gender a surprise. That’s when I’d be inclined to gift with these books. (I have a friend who is expecting a “surprise!” in March and so it’s kinda tricky to know what direction to go in.)
