My two year old son has two new best friends, and their names are Dot and Dash. Thanks to a surprise package from Scholastic, Dot and Dash Meet Their Friends has made it into the rotation of daily read books, along with Dot and Dash Go to Bed and Dot and Dash Dress Up by Emma Dodd. With these cute little faces, it’s impossible to say no to the cries of “Read it one more time, Mommy!”
With the signature orange circles and blue stripes, Dot and Dash are adorable dog and cat buddies who very much resemble toddlers of the human variety. When it’s time for bed, Dot and Dash take turns avoiding the necessary tasks. (I challenge any parent to read the line “but Dot doesn’t want to!” without instantly channeling their best little one’s whine. I know I can’t.) Their friends Big, Small, and Tall have simple descriptive names that are easily matched to their physical characteristics, as well, all drawn in a sweet and colorful style ultra-appealing to young children.
Some Dot and Dash books come with a page of stickers to match on the illustrations or add wherever you’d like, which my four year old daughter adored, and my son especially loves to lift the flaps that appear in some of the books. To tell the truth, we’re all big fans, all three of us, and Dot and Dash make for fun little books to share together!
Picture books make up one big part of the daily fun in Dawn’s world. The good, bad and bloggable stories find their way to cyberspace at my thoughts exactly.

Those sound cute. One of our favorite lines around here when we don’t want to do something is, “But I don’t want that to happen!”
Dawn says
That sounds much nicer than the uber-defiant “NO MOMMY!!” that I seem to get too frequently! 🙂
Jennifer (5 Minutes for Books) says
I picked up a Dot and Dash book at the Scholastic breakfast, and I thought it was adorable!
Six-year-old Kyle also picked it up, read it himself, and liked it, even though he’s above the target audience.
