Ok, cool cool! These books by Silver Dolphin are absolutely awesome. They are informative, educational and interactive. Do you have a child who likes to “invent” things? Look no further! World of Inventors: Alexander Graham Bell is full of photographs of Bell, his family and his inventions. The book talks about the team he formed to develop his invention and how the early telephone worked. Furthermore, at the back of the book there is a complete kit in which the young and ever hopeful inventor can put together their own intercom based on the original telephone design! It’s pretty stinkin’ awesome if you asked me. I would have LOVED to play with this book when I was growing up.
In World of Inventors: Thomas Edison kids can learn about Edison’s inventions and how they changed the world. Furthermore the book is filled with quotes which inspire and change the way that the reader feels about the world. Several quotes of Edison’s are scattered throughout the book including the following:
“I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.”
“The reason a lot of people do not recognize opportunity is because it usually goes around wearing overalls, looking like hard work.”
I love it!
In the back there is an animation machine which children can build and play with. This is an awesome book and really demonstrates how influential Edison’s inventions are and how far reaching his vision was.
Lastly, the Journal of Inventions: Leonardo da Vinci is filled with pop-ups and sketches of da Vinci’s ideas and inventions. The familiar looking flying machine appears as a pop-up in this book. This is a clever and fun way to learn about da Vinci apart from his paintings.
All of these books are an excellent way to promote creativity and exploration of your child’s little world. I love the way these books couple science and history in such an interactive and appealing manner.
Carrie comes by her book obsession honestly, having descended from a long line of bibliophiles. She blogs about books regularly at Reading to Know.
