Just one more week until vacation. Let me tell you…that thought does my weary soul some good. I’m so excited, I’ve already put together my stack of books that I’ll be hauling to the beach with me.
This week’s Booking Through Thursday asks
Do you buy books when on vacation?
Do you have favorite bookstores that you only get to visit while away on trip?
What/Where are they?
I’ve bought a book or two on vacation, but usually it’s because I find a Barnes & Noble (sadly, my small town’s idea of a bookstore is the magazine aisle at Walmart). I’ve never found a genuine bookshop on vacation. And that makes me a little sad. Although this year, it’s probably a good thing…since I’m not buying any books in 2008 (yes, you read that right).
Hmm…maybe I need to add another book or two in my suitcase.
What about you? Write your own post and link up to Booking Through Thursday here. Then come back and tell us about it.
Melissa has been captivated by books for as long as she can remember. She resides in Virginia and at Breath of Life.

Wow, you must have super-human will power! I’m trying to scale back on buying books this year, too. But I don’t think I could ever go a whole year without buying at least a few books. My sanity would definitely suffer!

Sadly, your town’s idea of a bookstore is the same as mine! Going to the big city, vacation or not, has the added attraction of Barnes and Noble!

Like you, I went to the beach this summer; unlike you, I’ve already returned! I packed my own too!

I have sympathy for you on the Wally World magazine aisle “bookstore”. I’m glad I have a Waldebooks here, because Walmart’s book aisle is pretty sad.
I’m also trying to not buy new books until I get Mt. TBR cut down some. It’s working… as long as I stay away from the mall. I’ll have to go to Waldenbooks soon, though, to buy more of the gift cards for my Border’s gift card giveaway… I’ll have to fight the temptation to not buy… NOT look, even!

The Walmart book aisle is pretty sad 🙁 Thankfully, we have a couple of bookstores here. You have my sympathy.

Hi there! I’m sorry to hear that you don’t have a good bookstore near your home. So, it’s better to buy a nice stack when you go to B&N! Wow, good for you that you’re not going to buy any books this year! I think I can achieve that too since I’m on a really tight budget. But then, I can’t always resist buying books. Not strong enough! Haha! 🙂

Sorry to hear you don’t have a bookstore near you. I don’t what I would do if I could only get books at Walmart I am so use to the selections at the Border and Barnes & Noble near me.

I can’t imagine a vacation without *some* book shopping 🙂 but then i’m kind of compulsive that way! and i love bringing home a book or two as a souvenir of a place, something special like a cookbook or a dictionary, something unique to the place i visit. 🙂

I don’t actually go on vacation much. But I do go to my mother’s house (it isn’t very far away)… my BTT was about that.

No big vacations for us this year. My favorite place for books are Amazon (nothing beats not having to leave the house on a super hot summer day…plus you can shop in the wee hours of the morning!) My second favorite place for books is a local used bookstore called Bookman’s…you can Buy, Sell, or Trade!
Kat says
Well, I’m not buying anything this much due to budget constraints. 🙂
I hardly buy books on vacation, but it’s usually because there are no bookstores where I go to.
Julie says
Yeah, no big vacations for me this year:) I went to Alaska last summer for my neice’s graduation and it was awesome!
