Snowy Day by Usborne Books captures the fun and the magic of snow falling over creation, creating a magical fairyland. This book describes what happens one day when two children look out their window and see snowflakes starting to fall. The children explore their white world, creating a snowman and stomping through the woods. Cute and cuddly animals are making tracks and hiding in the woods. My son was particularly excited over animals hiding within the scenes (squirrels in trees, bunnies in snow, etc.). This was a fun way to introduce the concept of snow to my son who has yet to see any that he actually remembers being able to play in.
How Big is a Million? is another Usborne book in which our little penguin character is trying to find something as big as a million. He finds ten fish, a hundred penguins, hundreds of snowflakes but can’t seem to find a million of everything. Finally he finds a million items. What are they? Well, you’ll have to check out the book to find out! There is a large fold-out poster in the back of the book to show off penguin’s million. Very cute idea.
Lastly, A Long Way from Home is a new release from Tiger Tales. This book tells the story of a rabbit named Noah who lives in an overcrowded nest with lots of brothers and sisters. Feeling the need for space, Noah has an albatross fly him north so that he can find a home of his own. The albatross takes him far away and accidentally drops him in a snowy land where he is very cold and all alone. He decides that home, with all of his family, is the best place to be after all.
All of these books are fun and we recommend them along with a warm cup of hot chocolate!

We have The Snowy Day for our daughter. Very cute book … she especially loved reading it after we left Vermont and moved down to Tennessee for a year. She missed the snow 🙂

The cute little penguin from Usborne’s book How Big Is A Million? has two other books that are great read-alouds with fascinating posters to go with them.
One is How High Is the Sky? and the other is How Deep is the Sea? You AND your kids will love them. I learned something from them, too!
