Do you want a dream house or a dream home? In Vicki Courtney’s new book Ever After: Life Lessons Learned in my Castle of Chaos, she distinguishes between the two. The dream house she used to chase was “built to impress those who live on the outside more than those who live on the inside” (page 15). On the other hand, dream homes are “places where the neighbor kids gather to play because they are always welcome” (page 15), and might have lopsided cushions and fingerprints on the wall.
And what about our children? Courtney, an empty-nester with loads of perspective and humor about that stage in her life – encourages, “Too often, we bring more to the table than is necessary when it comes to helping our children prosper. Maybe we should aim for enough rather than too much” (page 139).
