For some families, vacations mean lots of opportunities for reading. My family just returned from a 10 day trip which included 6 different flights (3 legs, 2 flights per leg). The kids are old enough that they don’t need my attention the whole time so I get some great reading time in. Unfortunately they’d rather play on the various electronic devices than read, and with late nights there wasn’t much bedtime reading either. My 9 year old also took advantage of not having to log his reading time and devoured his Poptropica official guide instead of the novels I had brought along for him. Well, as they say, as long as he’s reading, right? Also, the fact that Poptropica was created by Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney makes it a little more acceptable.
While participation in the Kids’ Picks event has been low lately, we’ve decided to keep it going because both Jennifer and I (Nancy) love this event, both sharing what our kids are reading and getting ideas from others. Instead of using Mr. Linky, we’re going to leave comments linking to our Kids’ Picks posts, and are asking you to share as well, whether you give a quick list on your blog or in the comments.

My Kids’ Picks post is now up at my blog.

My two daughters just discovered Rick Riordan so that’s going to keep them busy for a while! (Both their Halloween costumes were inspired by the Percy Jackson series.) The 10-year-old has read 5 of Riordan’s books in the last month, but before that she enjoyed reading The Book of Elsewhere by Jacqueline West.

I didn’t even get a post up. Boo me! But I still love this monthly event.
Kyle has been reading like crazy this month. Among other things (maybe I WILL get a post up sometime), he read all 3 Origama Yoda books and LOVED them!!
We are listening to the second Charlie Joe Jackson on audiobook.
