My new book of Tiger Tales titles arrived in the mail yesterday and, as always, it was met with great enthusiasm. We always find new titles to love in Tiger Tales new releases and this time was no exception. I’ve talked about Tiger Tales before – they are one of my all-time favorite children’s book publishers. They publish picture books for young children, from birth to around age 8. In their new collection there were a few books for babies which my youngest enjoyed.
Big Book of My World is perfect for little ones whose vocabularies are in the process of exploding all over the place. Kali Stileman filled the pages of this one with bright and colorful illustrations. Colorful owls greet us on the first page spread and encourage the learning youngster to count to ten. There is a page spread which focuses on shapes and one for colors and from there it goes to words for various sounds, weather, seasons and wild animals. There are also pages which show “Things at Home” and “At the Beach” and “Toys.” Even though this book is designed for burgeoning speakers, my eldest sons both like flipping through this book. The illustrations are fun and there are some puzzle pages in the back with a “spot the difference” game. Very cute book and very well received.
The following two books by Smiljana Coh are similar in theme. I Have a Brother and I Have a Sister are both meant for older siblings who have recently been introduced to a new and tiny family member.
In both books there is an older child who is very excited to have sibling to share life with. The text is very straightforward with a simple sentence per page. Reading this book to a new big brother or sister would help to instil a sense of pride in being bigger with more life experience, and yet being kind in wanting to teach the baby about the world.
“My sister is happy to have me because I make her smile.”
“I help Mommy bathe her. When I was little Mommy bathed me too. Now I can splash in the big bathtub.”
“My brother is happy most of the time, but sometimes he cries. So I sing to him.”
And so on and so forth.
Each book is 10 pages long, making for a very quick and easy read which assures the new older sibling of their immense worth and value within the family unit. I like these two very much. Nicely done! I am happy to recommend them.
Thank you, Tiger Tales, for shooting copies of the above books our way in exchange for our honest thoughts! We’re happy to share them, as always.
