As a Christian parent, my greatest desire is that my children will love Jesus and follow the Bible in all things. We study the Bible together daily, and I try to discuss my faith with them throughout all our experiences. While the Bible is my greatest tool, I also enjoy sharing books with my children that will help them to learn and grow in their own faith. In Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door, co-authors Josh McDowell and Bob Hostetler explore the answers to many faith-related questions that Christians, and especially our youth, face today.
Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door targets teens (but I think even my nine-year-old could benefit from its simple and straightforward material). Its chapters are categorized as follows: Myths about God, Myths about Jesus, Myths about the Bible, Myths about the Resurrection, Myths about Religion and Christianity, and Myths about Life and Happiness. Although the original version of this book was released twenty years ago, the material is just as timely and meaningful today. Each chapter is short and includes a brief narrative along with suggestions for Bible study. This book would make a great devotional for a teen, or even a good Bible study for parents and kids to work through together.
Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door is a great resource. Through their use of humor and pop culture references, authors McDowell and Hostetler will attract their target audience. But while the style is appealing, the book’s greatest strength is that it provides answers and evidences to help young Christians stand firm in their faith. As a Christian mom, I highly recommend it.

Sounds very interesting! Adolescence is a time of testing everything. So far it hasn’t affected my young teen’s faith, but I’m glad there are resources like this that speak directly to them.
