How does your to-be-read list grow? Do you take your cue from the New York Times Bestseller list? The “New and Noteworthy” table at the bookstore or library? Books that your friends insist you must read? Voyeuristically checking out what others on the train or pool are reading?
If you’re reading this now, you probably take suggestions at least in part from book bloggers (be they all-book-bloggers, like us, or other bloggers who also review books). I know I do. Our very own features “On Your Nightstand” and “Kid’s Picks” and “Children’s Classics” give me many recommendations for both my want-to-read list and my kids’. And whether it’s a mom-blogger who only posts about books once a week, or a book blogger who posts new book reviews daily — I do appreciate these unlimited sources of books that I want to look into.
My Friend Amy started Book Blogger Appreciation Week — both to recognize the best of the best book bloggers, and to introduce others to new book bloggers they might be unfamiliar with. Last year, even though we were brand new, 5 Minutes for Books was surprised and pleased to end up as a finalist in one category.
So–What can you do? Check out the Book Blogger Appreciation Week blog.
- You can nominate your favorite book bloggers through August 5.
- If you’re a blogger who enjoys reading and blogs about books, register for BBAW 09 by filling out the form. This makes you eligible for inclusion in a BBAW book blogger database, as well as enters you for the BBAW 09 Grand Prize.
- If you are not a book blogger, but a reader of book blogs, you can participate by nominating your favorite blogs and visiting the finalists when they are posted on September 7, but also by checking out the giveaways that will be posted throughout Book Blogger Appreciation Week, September 14 – 18.
There’s much more offered, and since I didn’t know enough about it to participate more fully last year, I’m no help, so my best advice to you is to browse through the Book Blogger Appreciation Week blog to figure out what it offers you, whether you are a blogger who writes about books or simply a book-lover.
Managing Editor Jennifer Donovan loves talking about books, whether she’s gushing about her latest “must-read” or finding out what books her friends and acquaintances have enjoyed. She also blogs at Snapshot about her family (who also love books).
