Along Came You

July 10, 2009 by Lauren

I became a mother 7 1/2 years ago. Although I am certain that my pre-child life may have been quieter and calmer (I can vaguely remember those days), I am equally certain that I wouldn’t want my life to be any other way than it is right now.

In her darling new children’s book, Along Came You, Karona Drummond writes about life before and after children. In the story, a mom is explaining to her daughter how her life is different now:

Before you, my home was decorated in style. After you, my home is decorated in love. Before you, my world was quiet. After you, there is joyful noise.

The illustrations by Estelle Corke are delightful and vibrant, and they fit the text perfectly. On the first page of the book, Mrs. Drummond includes Psalm 127:3, which says, “Children are a gift from the Lord.” This book wonderfully demonstrates the ways that children enhance our lives as parents.

If it is not obvious already, I will say that I love this book. My kids enjoy it as well. And although I don’t think they will fully appreciate the meaning behind these words until they are parents themselves, reading this story together opened a discussion in which I could tell my kids ways my life is different and better now that I have them.

I highly recommend Along Came You. It is a book that I will not only enjoy reading with my kids, but I will also treasure it as a reminder of the blessings that my children have added to my life. Be sure to pick up a copy for yourself or another mother today!

I love the so positive spin that is put on the ‘after you’ portions. 🙂 It definitely was a LOT quieter around my home before the little ones were here! I’ve got to check this book out and share it with my crew. Thanks for the review!!
