What are your thoughts on vaccines? There are many conflicting opinions out there, and many people are very passionate about whether or not children should be vaccinated. In her new novel, Another Dawn, Kathryn Cushman explores this topic through the compelling story of a mother and her beloved son.
Grace Graham is a single mother living in California. When her father needs help after surgery, Grace returns home to Tennessee to care for him. Grace’s son Dylan is thrilled to see his family, particularly his young cousin, Hannah Rose. Unfortunately, Dylan gets sick. What appears to be a virus worsens over the course of the visit, and Grace learns that Dylan has measles. When babies from the family’s church, including Hannah Rose, are hospitalized with measles, tempers flare, and Grace is forced to question her own decisions.
While this book centers around the issue of vaccination, it also touches on family relationships, letting go of past mistakes, and forgiveness. Another Dawn is a thought-provoking and moving story about a single mother doing the best she can for her son. The story does not provide easy answers or a solution to the questions surrounding vaccines. But as a mother, I sympathized with Grace, and I enjoyed following her journey and learning from it.
