Kristin Hannah’s Winter Garden

January 5, 2011 by Jennifer

Last February, Lisa reviewed Winter Garden here (linked to her review).

Lisa’s review began: Winter Garden asks, “Can a woman ever really know herself if she doesn’t know her mother?” And such is the premise of this novel as it explores the relationships between two sisters and their mother.

She concluded: Reservations about the ending and the language aside, I liked Winter Garden. Hannah tackles some of the most complex relationships, those of mother-daughter-sister, with an honest and compelling story that was difficult to put down.

Read her entire review to find out more about the book, and you can also check out an excerpt.

In honor of the release of Winter Garden in paperback, the publisher has offered a giveaway, and released some special assets, in addition to the excerpt.

  • A discussion guide perfect for bookclubs (which contains spoilers if you haven’t read the book)
  • Watch author Kristin Hannah discuss Winter Garden

We have two copies to give away. Just leave a comment if you’d like to win. We’ll announce the winners on January 19.

  • The winner of the Blackboard Books set is #19 Jen.

Jennifer Donovan loves the opportunity to give away books! She also loves sharing her thoughts with all who will listen at her blog Snapshot.

I would like to win this because I have a sister but I dont know my mother that well. She is undiagnosed with some type of mental disorder and it has kept us apart from eachother for a very long time. Id like to read this it seems like it would intrigue me to the end!
Thankyou for giving me this opportunity to enter this giveaway.

    Happy NewYears!

I read this book after reading the review of it in February. I liked Kristin’s “Between Sisters” and “Firefly Lane”. I just browsed her site and I am really interested in getting my book club to read this book. It is amazing that she does “phone” book club visits, how nice to see authors interacting with their customers. I’d love to win this giveaway and get my book club started on Winter Garden, it’s a great read. I really learned quite a bit of history also, love when that happens! 🙂

My sister has been my sister since we were 14 and our parents got married. We are now 61. We lost my (our) mom in June. The 3 of us had a wonderful relationship. My sister and I just had lunch today so things have not changed at all.
