The Proposal

April 16, 2009 by Lauren

PhotobucketDo you remember life before children (BC)? I have fading memories of my BC years. From what I can recall, my schedule pretty much revolved around me, me, and me. Of course, one tiny baby changes all of that. Suddenly, you have someone depending on you for everything. All your needs take a backseat while you care for a little bundle that you love more than you ever thought possible.

In Lori Wick’s novel, The Proposal, William Jennings is a bachelor, and he is perfectly satisfied with his lifestyle. He is in London, in 1810, and he spends all of his time pursuing his own interests (has anyone ever noticed that the ladies and gentlemen of this time period seemed to do very little work?). When a relative of Mr. Jennings dies, however, William finds himself acting as guardian for two brothers and a sister. The transition from a life of self to a life revolving around three children is not an easy one for him to make. William decides to visit his estranged sister, seeking help with his new responsibilities.

Although William desires reconciliation with his sister, he has no interest in her faith. But as he socializes within his sister’s circle of friends, he realizes that his life is much emptier than he could have imagined. Is it too late for this bachelor to open his heart to a family and to God?

The Proposal is the first book in Lori Wick’s bestselling English Garden series. These books are being re-released by Harvest House. If you enjoy escaping to the regency period (the world of Jane Austen), be sure to check out these stories. They are the perfect choice when you need to escape to a peaceful and serene setting!

Lauren is a wife, a mother of two, and an avid reader. She blogs at Baseballs and Bows.
