SparkPointStudio and author Susie Orman Schnall have asked us to feature a cover reveal and a fun giveaway for her new book On Grace.
Meet Grace May, who is actually excited about turning 40 in a few months, that is, until her job, marriage and personal life take a dizzying downward spiral. Can she even recover from the most devastating time in her life, right before it’s supposed to be one of the best?
Susie Orman Schnall’s debut novel On Grace is all about rediscovering yourself, and doing it with grace, well after you think it’s even possible anymore. The book deals with themes such as divorce, infidelity, re-entering the workforce after children, breast cancer, and of course, turning 40.
We all judge books by their covers, don’t we? When I see this one, I think of that old commercial that means so much more to me now that I’m a mom in her 40’s: “Calgon, take me away.” I see serenity, a woman making time for herself and embracing this time in her life.
Win it
One of you, U.S. only, can win a signed advanced reader’s copy of On Grace, out April 8, 2014.

Kristin Jones says
I am a 10 years below 40, but definitely felt the 30 when I work at a technology company with quite a few employees straight out of college!
Susie Orman Schnall says
Nice to know how much wiser you are than those little kids :)!! And 40 is so great – you’ll love it!!
Liz says
I am definitely a bit apprehensive.
Susie Orman Schnall says
Oh no, Liz! What are you apprehensive about? I have never been happier and more settled than in this decade of my life. 40 is awesome!!
anne says
I was not bothered with being 40, 50 or even 60, but the breast cancer diagnosis 2 years ago was totally unexpected and health is what matters.
Susie Orman Schnall says
Amen, Anne. I agree on that. Best wishes for good health. There’s a breast cancer sub plot in On Grace. It’s very realistic and reaffirming. Hope you enjoy the book! Talks a lot about perspective too which really does get better with age.
Shannon says
Didn’t faze me I was fine with it, age is just a number it’s how you feel and lead your life that matters
Susie Orman Schnall says
Shannon, 40 didn’t faze me at all either. I actually was so excited to turn 40. I felt like I had all kinds of permission to do whatever I wanted. It was very freeing for me! And yes, I agree, it’s all about the choices we make and, hopefully most of the time, we make the right ones. Enjoy On Grace!!
Jacki says
It’s just a number.
Susie Orman Schnall says
Best number so far for me. Pretty big milestone. 50 is next for me. I hope I’ll feel the same when that comes along!
Heather B says
My birthdays never seem to bother me, turning 40 isn’t stressing me any…. the fact that my son will turn 20 that same year DOES bother me though!
Susie Orman Schnall says
Wow Heather. That’s going to be a big year for your family! It’ll probably hit you harder that he’s 20 than that you’re 40!! I love birthdays – another opportunity to celebrate life!
Jessie C. says
I’m a few years away to the stage, honestly feel a bit dread.

Anita Yancey says
I embraced turning 40, but really dreaded it when I turned 50, and I’m not looking forward to 60 either.
Cynthia R says
I am not going to lie, I dread it.
Kate I. says
I turned 40 about two months ago. My only complaint relating to the age itself is that little physical issues have begun to arise, and I don’t bounce back as quickly as I used to. (That day was the worst ever because, as anyone else born around Christmas and New Year’s Day might attest, NO ONE remembers let alone makes a fuss. I’d hoped to be surprised since 40 is considered a milestone. I have begun making plans for my 41st birthday even if it means traveling alone to one of the places I’ve always wanted to visit.)
Kate I. says
The bottom line: I *had* embraced it!
DarcyO says
I embraced 40, but didn’t want to let it go!

susie King says
Embrace it all just for today because I want to live one day at a time.
Annette W {This Simple Home} says
I’m somewhere in between embracing and dreading it. My husband is 4 years younger so big birthdays can feel bigger. 🙂
Linda Meyers-Gabbard says
I embraced turning 40 mentally but physically my body started falling apart when the clock struck 40.
The warranty on my bodycand health expired.
it started with being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The the carpal tunnel syndrome set in in both hands. The the ulnar nerve in left arm was being pinched causing the arem to go numb. The neuropathy set in in both feet. Then herniated disc in the neck and back. A diagnosis of IBS. Then the big one FIBROMYALGIA.
Yes my forties were somdting. Im in my 50’s now and am coping with the joys of chronic pain and all the side effects of fibromyalgia.
The best thing that happened in my 40’s. I met and married the man of my dreams. Amen
Tammy Woodall says
My brother dreaded turning 40. When his birthday came around, he lightened up about it because my Sister-In-Law had a Funeral Theme Birthday – everyone wore black. There was even a coffin That was a birthday he won’t ever forget.
Tammy Woodall says
Oops, didn’t complete my entry. I didn’t dread turning 40. Nothing like my brother did anyway.
Neiddy says
Well … I am 28 but I will embrace it. I like to enjoy every day of my life plus I love having birthday celebrations 🙂
