Polly Potter’s life has become unbearable. Her new boss is a chauvinist who has demoted her and then takes credit for all her ideas, and her long-term boyfriend takes her for granted. His sister puts unreasonable demands on Polly for a party that the sister is planning. And Polly is your classic Intrinsically Kind Woman who keeps putting others first and accepting things; she’s really a lovely person and you wish others could see it. Her one escape is her writing. Polly’s created a character who is all she wishes she could be–the fearless, bold, adventurous Sabrina Anderson.
Polly decides to leave. And because of that, when a wild turn of events leaves her far from home in hospital with a concussion, her purse stolen and her car missing, she believes her name is Sabrina. At first no one really bothers looking for her, and when they do, there’s no Polly Potter to be found. Meanwhile, Sabrina is beginning her new life in a small seaside town. She moves in with a kind stranger (whose own friends are screaming caution to her), and her past skills remain as she helps a struggling Italian restaurant get on their feet. She even meets someone new. Life is good, if she could just reassure these new friends that her past is not somehow suspicious. But there are those who are looking for trouble. Can Polly find her happy-ever-after? (Spoilers not needed)
Unlike a lot of women my age, I am not fond of rom-coms. They always feel so contrived to me. However, I loved this book! It’s cozy, sure, but it’s also witty and filled with engaging characters, a dash of danger and intrigue, and a puzzle to figure out. The Accidental Rewrite is a thoroughly enjoyable read! Highly recommended!
