This is a really sweet book. The verse is simple, but very heartfelt, and the little drawings are cute too. They will look familiar if you are a fan of Patrick McDonnell’s Mutts comic strip.
The poems are written in type of haiku, from the perspective of the pet:
The Friend
Why go into the city
or the field without first
kissing the Friendwho always
stands at your
door
Each time I crack open Darling, I Love You: Poems from the Hearts of our Glorious Mutts it makes me appreciate my little furry friends even more, I also find myself feeling better about life in general as trite as that sounds, but I think that’s what poetry is all about.
