A Beautiful Wedding

December 12, 2013 by Nancy

5M4B disclosure

Beautiful Disaster and its companion novel, Walking Disaster, tell the love story of Abby “Pigeon” Abernathy and Travis “Mad Dog” Maddox – how they met, how Travis instantly fell for Abby but she pushed him away, how they ended up together, and impulsively, married.

The novella A Beautiful Wedding fills in the blanks – why Abby proposed to Travis, who else knew about it, and where exactly they said their vows and spent their wedding night. Some reviews I’ve read have complained that this novella ruined the ending of Beautiful Disaster for them, and I can see where they’re coming from. Abby’s motives for wanting to marry Travis are not entirely pure, and the fact that they’re starting their marriage with that secret bothered me.

But, I enjoyed hearing from both Abby and Travis as the events played out thanks to the perspective shifting every few pages. Abby’s not as whiny, Travis is obviously head over heels, and both can’t quite put the tragic event that resulted in their trip to Vegas out of their heads. It’s also a very fast read, I started reading Monday night during football and finished yesterday during lunch.

There’s something about Abby and Travis that I can’t quite put my finger on. Reading my reviews of the first two books, it appears I didn’t like them, and yet, when I saw this novella, I knew I had to read it. Just like Abby and Travis can’t stay away from each other, I can’t seem to stay away from them.

Nancy likes escapist fiction mixed in with the more literary stuff. She writes about her boys, books and life in Colorado at Life With My Boys and Books.
