“Monkey went for a walk one day and met some friends along the way,” begins this charming new picture and open-the-flap book by Ruth Brown. Each page introduces a new animal friend, and there are clues to be found in the illustrations before you open the flap to reveal the full picture and text that tells which friend monkey is meeting.
The illustrations are gorgeous—lots of drippy watercolour and texture, crammed with detail. The story is charming, and children will have a lot of fun guessing which animal is next. The rhymes gives clues as well, and add their own fun to the tale.
Monkey’s Friends is a delightful story that’s sure to become a favorite.
Elizabeth doesn’t mean to brag, but she pretty much guessed all the animals hidden under the flaps. Read more of her amazing skills at her blog Planet Nomad.
